Ride ‘em Cowgirls
Soon after graduation came the month’s Gymkana event. A what? you ask. A kid’s rodeo. Both girls participate on one of our horses in the event known as leadline, which is truly just a humungous work out for the parent who preps the horses and then has to lead them through a 4 part obstacle course on foot while the child rides. But, hey, it’s all about the kids (and keeping me in shape). Although we drive an hour one way for them to participate in an event that lasts all of 1 minute, it is well worth it. They make their way through a barrel pattern, ride over to grab a flag, make their way through a pole bending drill, then jump off their horse (with assistance of course) run over to a little tied up baby goat, touch the goat with two hands then triumphantly throw their hands in the air. For this proud display of accompolishment, a not much older child gives them a brown paper bag stuffed with snacks, trinkets and goodies. We love it and so do they!
